Sports enthusiasts from Beechlawn Special School in Hillsborough scored a special pass to Ulster Rugby recently as part of an educational programme, hosted by Phoenix Energy.

Pupils were given an educational tour of the Kingspan Stadium and accessed all areas in the exclusive behind-the-scenes tour before trying their skills with an interactive simulator within the Nevin Spence Museum, where they learned the history of the sport and the club team.

Geri Wright, Communications Manager at Phoenix Energy said, “As part of our involvement with Ulster Rugby, we have the opportunity of bringing school pupils to the Nevin Spence museum for a unique insight into the world of rugby. It really is a fantastic learning and resource centre for young sports enthusiasts.

“I am delighted to welcome Beechlawn Special School who we have worked closely with over the last number of months as Phoenix Energy extends the natural gas network to bring the benefits of natural gas to Hillsborough.”

Commenting on the tour, teacher David Andrews said, “The pupils thoroughly enjoyed their tour of Ulster Rugby and came away inspired by the sport, which is something that we actively encourage as a school. The staff and pupils of Beechlawn Special School would like to thank Ulster Rugby and Phoenix Energy for this fantastic educational session.”

In addition to supporting Ulster Rugby, Phoenix Energy is actively involved in nurturing local talent through the company’s sports bursary programme which to date has helped dozens of rising stars achieve their goals.
