Phoenix Energy and the Utility Regulator recently joined forces to participate in an environmental initiative at Clandeboye Estate as part of Business in the Community’s Love Your Landscape Day on 12th October.

The event, organised by Business in the Community, aimed to encourage businesses to support the beautiful landscape across Northern Ireland through employee supported volunteering.

As part of its corporate social responsibility programme, Phoenix Energy invited the Utility Regulator to collaborate on the conservation project at Clandeboye Estate in Bangor.

Working with members of The Conservation Volunteers Northern Ireland, a team of 20 volunteers from both organisations spent the day carrying out coppicing and propagation of Osier Willow within the grounds of the Estate, the only willow nursery of its kind in Northern Ireland.

Adele Boyle, Corporate Affairs Executive at the Utility Regulator and project volunteer, said, “The Utility Regulator exists to protect the interests of energy and water consumers. It was therefore a privilege to take part in this volunteering opportunity, making a positive contribution to the community. Events such as this demonstrate our aspiration to be a responsible organisation which takes part in activities that contribute to the wellbeing and sustainability of local communities. Together with Phoenix Energy, the team planted over 2,000 trees, which will provide a long lasting benefit to the Conservation Volunteers project at Clandeboye Estate.”

The activity was part of a nationwide Love Your Landscape Day volunteering programme which saw thousands of employees across the UK participate in local environmental projects with the aim of maintaining and improving local landscapes.

Geri Wright, Phoenix Energy Communications Manager said, “Phoenix Energy is actively engaged in a corporate social responsibility programme which seeks to give back to the communities which we serve. We do this in a number of ways through our own initiatives and also in association with Business in the Community, with whom we have enjoyed a long standing relationship and undertaken various community activities.

“Love Your Landscape Day was a fantastic opportunity for us to partner with the Utility Regulator and demonstrate our environmental commitment to the local community. Volunteers from both organisations had a fantastic day and the impact that this work has had on the Estate will continue to be felt for years to come. It’s this kind of partnership working that Phoenix Energy is proud to be involved in and we thank Business in the Community for putting together such a great and rewarding initiative.”
