Fun-runners stepped out in force on Wednesday night to participate in the annual Spa Primary School end-of-year fun run and walk, sponsored by Phoenix Energy.

The highly anticipated event attracts hundreds of locals and is a firm favourite in the school calendar. This year saw a record number of participants complete the route around Montalto Estate, before returning to Spa Primary School to enjoy all the fun of the fair in a family fun day sponsored by Phoenix Energy.

The event generated over £4,600 of funding for the school, which will go towards purchasing new iPads for pupils to use in the classroom and aid in their learning.

Spa Primary School Principal, Audrey Fitzsimons, said, “The end-of-year family fun run and walk is one of our favourite events and always attracts a huge crowd. I would like to thank all the pupils and their families for supporting this event and raising such a large amount of money to help fund vital equipment for the school.

“I would also like to thank Phoenix Energy for their continued partnership working with the school. The company hosted a Spa public information event in the school back in March to provide locals with information on planned construction works and recently visited a number of our Primary 5 pupils to talk to them about staying safe around construction sites as Phoenix Energy continues to work in the area. I am delighted to have Phoenix Energy on board as sponsor of this fantastic event and continue our partnership working.”

Speaking about the partnership, Geri Wright, Phoenix Energy Communications Manager said, “Phoenix Energy has been working in the Spa area to extend the natural gas network and bring fuel choice to properties in the area. Throughout the duration of construction works in the area, we have been working in close partnership with Spa Primary School, recognising the vital role the school plays at the heart of the community.

“As a company actively engaged in corporate social responsibility we are delighted to support the Spa Fun Run and add deeper value to the local community which we serve. This was a fantastic and memorable event enjoyed by all and we look forward to the pupils being able to avail of additional IT equipment in the new school year, thanks to the generous fundraising efforts of all participants.”
