1 The Grand Opera House And Leading Gas Network Operator Phoenix Natural Gas Have Announced A Brand New Arts Event Creative Spaces

The Grand Opera House and leading gas network operator Phoenix Energy have announced a brand-new arts event, Creative Spaces, which will take place in Newcastle this November.

Supported by Arts & Business the one-day event will be hosted at the Newcastle Centre on Saturday 17 November 2018. Creative Spaces will provide local children aged 7-11 with the exciting opportunity to create and perform a short ‘play-in-a-day’, written and directed by a leading production company, whilst other activities throughout the day will  include workshops focused on music, theatre and creative writing for children aged three and upwards

Geri Wright, Communications Manager of Phoenix Energy, commented:

“We are really excited to announce this bespoke collaboration between Phoenix Energy and the Grand Opera House. Phoenix Energy has been a longstanding supporter of the arts in Northern Ireland and this project has been specifically created to help develop and nurture the artistic talents of young people in the Newcastle area, where we are currently working to extend the natural gas network.

“As a responsible business, we’re very proud of our environmental credentials and, as such, the theme of the Creative Spaces workshops is ‘Environment’. Not only will participants have a platform to express their creativity, learn new skills and develop their talents further, but the sessions will also incorporate an educational element around environmental responsibility.

“We’re proud to collaborate with the Grand Opera House on this project and provide the community with an event created specifically for local families. With workshops in creative writing, musical theatre and drama, led by some of the finest names in the Northern Ireland arts scene, there really is something for everyone and I would encourage parents to register their children to participate in this fantastic event.  No previous theatre experience is necessary and everyone is welcome to take part.”

Áine Dolan, Creative Learning Manager at the Grand Opera House, added:

“Our partnership with Phoenix Energy and the creation of Creative Spaces gives the Grand Opera House the opportunity to work with communities in the Newcastle area. The one-day event will be led by a professional creative team and we are particularly looking forward to working with local school children in creating, rehearsing a short play and then performing it in front of friends, family and the wider community on the day.”
