Tree-umph for The Conservation Volunteers and Phoenix Gas on Year Two of Partnership

Png Folk Museum Trees 04

This National Tree Week (26th November – 4th December), Phoenix Energy are celebrating the second year of their partnership with local charity, The Conservation Volunteers (TCV). The partnership, which launched in May last year, has provided Phoenix staff the opportunity to regularly volunteer with TCV, whose mission it is to maintain habitats, create new habitats and link existing habitats together, contributing to halting the loss of biodiversity and achieving landscape-scale conservation.

As we enter Tree Week, which falls within tree planting season, Phoenix staff and partner volunteers are rolling up their sleeves to help ensure the annual target is met, delivering a total of 16,000 new trees in under 2 years.

Speaking about the partnership, Dianne Keys, Operations Leader at The Conservation Volunteers said: “Tree planting is seen as one of the biggest and most affordable ways of taking CO2, out of the atmosphere and helping to tackle the climate crisis.  With Northern Ireland being the least wooded area in the UK we welcome the support from Phoenix Energy to help increase our tree coverage.

“Alongside our partners at Phoenix, we are keen to involve as many people as possible and encourage individuals, local gardening groups and schools and community groups to contact us if we can help them create or improve green spaces in their communities as a result of this exciting partnership.”

Michael McKinstry, Chief Executive of Phoenix Energy said: “Phoenix has a strong commitment to environmental responsibility, with natural gas users across Northern Ireland making an immediate reduction of up to 50% on their household carbon emissions when they switch to natural gas with high efficiency systems, from older oil boilers.

“The partnership with The Conservation Volunteers, now in its second year, is a wonderful initiative from Phoenix’s climate action programme. As a business which is focused on delivering a carbon zero future, by working to deliver renewable gasses through our network, this is another way that we can help to protect our local environment and promote biodiversity.”
